A standard 14-50 outlet isn't always the right tool for EV charging - and this is exactly why. What we pulled out of this garage was completely burned through. The plastic had melted, the contacts were destroyed, and the whole thing was a fire risk sitting right there in the wall.

Here's what most people don't realize: not all 50-amp outlets are built for the kind of continuous, sustained draw that EV charging puts on a circuit. Regular household receptacles aren't rated for that load over long periods. When the circuit is undersized or the receptacle can't handle the heat, you end up with exactly what you see here.

We swapped out the failed 14-50 with an EV-rated receptacle and ran a fresh, properly sized circuit to support it. That means the outlet, the wiring, and the breaker are all matched to handle EV charging the right way - not just good enough, but actually correct.

If your outlet feels warm after charging, or you notice any discoloration around it, don't brush it off. That's your first warning sign. Our troubleshooting process starts by checking the full circuit - not just the outlet itself - so we can catch problems before they turn into something much worse.

EV ownership is growing fast, and the electrical infrastructure in a lot of homes hasn't caught up yet. Getting the right setup from the start - or correcting a bad one - is one of the most important things you can do to protect your home and your vehicle.
