Out With the Old Panel on This 1960s Home

Older homes have a lot of character. What they don't always have is an electrical system that can keep up with modern life. A panel from the 1960s was designed for a completely different era - one without the load demands of today's appliances, HVAC systems, EV chargers, and everything else plugged in under one roof.

Here's what we were working with on this one. The existing setup was well past its prime. Conduit runs were messy, the panel itself was undersized for current demands, and the whole exterior service entrance needed a fresh start. These are the kinds of setups that don't just inconvenience you - they can be a real safety concern.

We pulled it all out and started clean. New panel, new conduit runs laid out properly along the wall, everything secured and organized the way it should be. When you do a panel upgrade right, the exterior work tells the story - tight conduit bends, clean mounting, and a layout that makes sense for the next electrician who has to work on it too.

Beyond just the panel itself, the wiring work that goes along with a service upgrade matters just as much. Getting the conductors sized correctly, the grounding done right, and the meter base properly tied in - that's what makes the difference between a job that passes inspection and one that actually protects your home long-term.
